6 Weeks

Here is what I intended to write today regarding my symptoms:

So I'm entering the 6th week now.  The day I found out I was pregnant again, I told Jeff I really hope I'm puking my guts out this entire pregnancy because then I would at least feel like everything was okay.

Well, it seems as though my wish has been granted, sort of.  I haven't come to the point of actually vomiting yet, but definitely haven't felt well for several days now.  I recently read of morning sickness being similar to a hangover.  I think that analogy is spot on.  If you've ever been unfortunate enough to go over your alcohol limit you know what I'm talking about.  You feel nauseous and on the verge of wanting to run to the bathroom, but at the same time you feel like a hot, greasy cheeseburger will for sure make you feel better.  And then after consuming said cheeseburger, you still feel like crap.

This is something I haven't experienced with any of my other 3 pregnancies (or if I did I know it wasn't this early, or this strong) so that definitely helps calm my nerves a little.

My boobs are sore and have doubled in size already (okay, not literally, but pretty darn close).

I really, truly have a good feeling about this and I hope I'm not jinxing things by saying that.  Surely, surely, the universe won't make us go through this a 4th time, right?  I feel like our bad luck HAS to run out at some point.  I'm just trying to remain positive and not overthink things.

So that's what I was thinking...until I woke up this morning to brown spotting.  It's very, very minimal, but it's there.  So all the positive thinking I've been doing for the last 2 weeks has pretty much flown out the window.  I know it's common, and it probably doesn't mean anything is wrong.  But it still annoys me.  Can't I ever have a smooth-sailing pregnancy??

  1. Spotting is totally common...but can you call your clinic for an ultrasound? I ask because spotting could be simple cervical irritation or it could be a subchorionic hematoma--which sounds scary but is very, very common and requires taking it easy and lifting restrictions. I had brown spotting around week 7 and decided to call my clinic just to be safe and they brought me in to check and we found a rather large SCH. The pregnancy wasn't threatened, but they stopped my lovenox and told me not to lift anything over 10 lbs. I took it real easy and it was gone in 2 weeks. I am a firm believer in the more information the better.

  2. So glad you are feeling yuk...as much as it completely STINKS its nice to know your hormones are increasing. Take it easy and hopefully the spotting will stop.

  3. Yeah, spotting is completely useless as a predictor of anything, a good or a bad outcome. We actually have quite a bit in common- I'm a *maybe* case of PCOS,2 pregnancy losses so far(yuck), and I'll be 6 weeks along dayafter. When is your first ultrasound? Keeping fingers and toes crossed for you!

  4. Brown. Brown is the key word! It's really common for people growing multiple little humans to spot early in the first tri- there's a lot more snuggling going on that normal!

If you're super nervous you might as well as for an earlier u/s- just know that you're chances of seeing a hb or fetal pole are slim and that it's OK not to see one so early. Mine is on Friday at 5w6d, and you're ahead of me so you should totally go for it.

  5. I would call and ask for an early u/s. I don't want to scare you, but I had brown spotting around 6-7 wks during my first pregnancy...everyone kept saying it was normal, so I ignored it and didn't end up calling the clinic. It turned out to be a blighted ovum and I was carrying around nothing for weeks without knowing it. I'm not saying that's what's going on with you...but better to calm your fears than go on worrying about something that might be nothing at all!

  6. It seems as though most women do spot a bit of brown during pregnancy. Brown is the old blood coming down. But if you feel bad cramping, see bright red or clots that are large go to the ER.

  8. Oh Jenny, I'm sorry about the spotting! Ick...I was just saying to a friend tonight how even though spotting is common, it still can worry the hell out of you. She had spotting with all of her children. And I know with the journey you've been on, it's not as easy to keep calm! I am keeping the faith and continuing to feel great vibes about this one!
    Big hugs!

  9. Damn that spotting. I'm sorry you have to go through anything at all dear. You deserve to have the least complicated pregnancy possible.
I always worry that because I have easy first trimesters that I don't have normal pregnancies. How come I don't get sick?
Just hang in there and see if maybe your OB can get you in early considering your history and the spotting.
